AFL Match preview: Port Adelaide v Kangaroos
6:47:00 PM Thu 5 April, 2007 Brought to you by Ecobika AFL Betting Venue: AAMI Stadium, Date: Sunday, April 8, Time: 12.40pm, Head to head: Port Adelaide 3 Kangaroos 13 Drawn 0. Last time: Kangaroos 12.12 (84) bt Port Adelaide 9.11 (65) R18 2006 Telstra Dome
Betting: Port Adelaide 1.20, Kangaroos 4.6
Summary: The Power come into this match cock-a-hoop after starting the season with a thrilling win over high-flying Fremantle. Compare that to the Kangaroos, who came up just short against the Magpies after umpire Stuart Wenn and Shannon Grant both made costly errors in the dying seconds.
The Roos enjoy a stunning 13-3 win-loss advantage over the Power, with two of their seven wins in 2006 coming over the boys from Alberton. They will still be smarting from last week's loss, and given their record, will be confident they can open their 2007 account away from home.
Port will be without former Roo Daniel Motlop, who injured his ankle at the start of the second quarter against the Dockers last week. The club will ease skipper Warren Tredrea back through the SANFL but will welcome back premiership hero Peter Burgoyne to an already impressive midfield line-up.
Who's hot: Port Adelaide - Dean Brogan was enormous in his duel with perhaps the best tap ruckman in the competition, Fremantle's Aaron Sandilands, in the season opener. Brogan collected 19 possessions and won 14 hitouts in a near best-on-ground performance. He and ruck partner Brendon Lade form perhaps the league's most deadly ruck combination.
Kangaroos - Young ruck gun Hamish McIntosh was close to the Roos' best in their loss to the Pies last week, amazingly accruing almost identical stats to this week's counterpart Brogan (they had the same number of hitouts, with McIntosh collecting one less possession but taking one more mark). The 22-year-old giant will need great support from David Hale, who spent the majority of his time at centre half-forward in the Pies defeat but this contest should be absorbing viewing.Key: Even without Tredrea, Port look to hold most of the aces in the Cornes and Burgoyne brothers and Danyle Pearce. However, it would not surprise to see the Roos rebound from their stinging loss last week.
Pick: Port Adelaide to win.
